The City of Henderson, Nevada, Issues Proclamation Declaring Itself a TraffickingFree Zone™

City of Henderson makes a city-wide proclamation that sets a zero-tolerance standard for sex trafficking

HENDERSON, Nev., September 18, 2019 — The City of Henderson, Nevada, issued a proclamation today signed by Mayor Debra March declaring itself a TraffickingFree Zone™ in collaboration with the U.S. Institute Against Human Trafficking (USIAHT).

“We are committed to eradicating sex trafficking in Nevada and throughout the United States,” said Kevin Malone, president and co-founder of the U.S. Institute Against Human Trafficking. “We are proud to partner with the City of Henderson through our TraffickingFree Zone program, and we look forward to continuing to work alongside them to end this massive crime.”

The TraffickingFree Zone program is an initiative focused on raising awareness and reducing the demand for sex-trafficked victims through collaboration with community members and leaders, law enforcement, businesses, schools, healthcare organizations, churches and the media. When these sectors are activated and working in unison, the TraffickingFree Zone community can expect to see a significant decline in demand.

As a result of the TraffickingFree Zone declaration, city staff of Henderson and the Henderson Police Department will receive training to identify and report human trafficking cases.

“Protecting the safety of our residents is the number one priority for Henderson and we will not condone human trafficking activities in our city.” said Mayor Debra March. “By declaring Henderson a TraffickingFree Zone, we have a set a zero-tolerance standard for any type of trafficking in our community.”

County-by-county, the TraffickingFree Zone program focuses on arresting and prosecuting sex buyers instead of those who are being sold, educating community members on sex trafficking and implementing numerous other demand-reduction techniques.
