Triple Crown Racing and Tampa Athletes Unite to Host a Fundraising Event in Support of the U.S. Institute Against Human Trafficking
Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody to speak at the reception
TAMPA, Fla., Aug. 15, 2019 – Triple Crown Racing and Tampa Athletes Unite are hosting a special fundraising event to support the U.S. Institute Against Human Trafficking (USIAHT). Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody will also speak at the event on Wednesday, August 21 at 5:00 p.m. ET at the Tavern restaurant at the Cheval Golf Club in Lutz, Florida.
Triple Crown Racing (TCR) and Tampa Athletes Unite are two local triathlon clubs that aim to spread awareness about human trafficking through racing and wearing a red X while competing. They also raise awareness by proving roundtable informational sessions to members.
“We must stand united against the scourge of human trafficking and do everything in our power to rescue and help survivors of this evil and atrocious crime,” said Attorney General Ashley Moody. “I am proud to stand with government leaders and nonprofits dedicated to our fight to end human trafficking and save lives.”
There are an estimated 4.8 million victims of sex trafficking worldwide. The demand for purchasing women, men and children for sex continues to escalate, and the demand for sex with even younger children is increasing. Human trafficking has become the fastest-growing criminal enterprise in the world.
“At the U.S. Institute Against Human Trafficking we are aggressively focused on ending this massive problem in the United States,” said Geoff Rogers, CEO and co-founder of the U.S Institute Against Human Trafficking. “We are grateful to have the support of the Tampa Bay community to help fight this problem. Together we can eradicate sex trafficking in America.”
USIAHT’s focus is to end human trafficking in the United States. They do this through raising awareness, disrupting sex trade activities through technology and their TraffickingFree Zones program, and advocating for policy change with federal, state and local government officials. USIAHT also focuses on the protection and restoration of survivors. USIAHT opened one of the nation’s first safe homes for boys in 2017, which is dedicated to the care of male victims of sex trafficking under the age of 18.
“We are thankful for Triple Crown Racing and Tampa Athletes Unite for hosting this fundraising event to help support our mission, said Kevin Malone, president and co-founder of the U.S. Institute Against Human Trafficking. “We have to work together to protect our kids from sexual predators and to take a stand as a nation against this crime.”
Florida consistently ranks third in the nation for the number of calls made to the National Human Trafficking Hotline.
During the event, attendees will hear from Florida Attorney General Moody, Geoff Rogers, CEO and co-founder of USIAHT and Kevin Malone, president and co-founder of USIAHT.
