U.S. Institute Against Human Trafficking Hosts 5K Race to “Stomp Out the Demand” for Sex Trafficking
USIAHT hosts their first 5K race near Las Vegas, NV
LAS VEGAS, Nev., August 31, 2019 – The U.S. Institute Against Human Trafficking (USIAHT) today announced that it will host its first 5K fundraising event, “Stomp Out the Demand 5K Race,” on Saturday, August 31 at Sunset Park in Henderson, near Las Vegas, Nevada.
“We are ready to ‘Stomp Out the Demand’ for sex trafficking in the city of Las Vegas and in our country,” said Kevin Malone, president and co-founder of the U.S. Institute Against Human Trafficking. “As a Las Vegas resident myself, I know that our community is ready to take a stand against the evil crime of sex trafficking and to declare that we will not tolerate such actions in our city or country.”
The race benefits the work of USIAHT to combat the demand for sex trafficking, raise awareness about modern-day slavery, and provide safe environments for victims.
“We are excited to host our first 5K fundraising event in Las Vegas and to have the whole community come together for this cause,” said Stephanie Costolo, national program manager of TraffickingFree Zone at the U.S. Institute Against Human Trafficking. “The support from this event will support our efforts to fight sex trafficking in Las Vegas and America.”
All of the proceeds from the “Stomp Out the Demand 5K Race” go toward USIAHT, a nonprofit, community-based organization that works to end human trafficking in the United States by raising awareness, disrupting sex trade activities through technology and their TraffickingFree Zone program, and advocating for policy change at the federal, state and local levels. USIAHT also focuses on the protection and restoration of survivors, opening one of the nation’s first safe homes dedicated to the care of male victims of sex trafficking under the age of 18.
“Sadly, Las Vegas is a magnet for human traffickers, who take advantage of the high demand generated by sex tourists,” said Geoff Rogers, CEO and co-founder of the U.S. Institute Against Human Trafficking. “That’s why we’re so pleased to have the support of the local community in the fight against this problem. Together, we can fight this horrendous crime and protect our nation’s most vulnerable populations.”
Participants have the option to run or walk 5 kilometers, or to do the one-mile kids run or dog walk. The check-in for the race and packet pick up will begin at 7 a.m. PDT and the race will begin at 8 a.m. PDT. The registration costs $25 for kids and dogs and $35 for adults. Participants have the option to join the elite team “Charity Runner Division,” which requires a fundraising goal of $200. Charity runners who raise or donate over $200 will receive a race entry, T-shirt, USIAHT magnet, and a bracelet. The charity runner who raises the most will receive a special goody bag and a lightweight Stomp Out the Demand sports windbreaker jacket.
